The Daily Telegraph Ekphrasis, 25 October 2017

by Andrew Galan

The photograph has a caption,
‘Ben Simmons of the Philadelphia 76ers
dunks the ball against the Detroit Pistons’.

But examination of the image shows
no iron downward drive
no long arm punch into ring
no thunderously blasted opposition net
no steel eyed resolution,
only upward trajectory and opposition dejection.

So while the result is history
the underlining text should be,
‘Ben Simmons of the Philadelphia 76ers
about to score against the Detroit Pistons’.
Or, ‘Ben Simmons of the Philadelphia 76ers
about to dunk against the Detroit Pistons’.

Once again Australia’s Daily Telegraph
in thick font
presents an inaccurate report.
